This isn't a lecture series. It's four days of hands-on Perception Modification work, live, with real dogs and real behavior challenges so you go home able to do it, not just describe it.

You've told your dog it's okay a hundred times. You've flooded, faded, rewarded, redirected.

 

And the bark still comes. The lunge still happens. The freeze still sets in.

 

That's not a training failure. It's the wrong tool.

Desensitization and counter-conditioning ask a dog to just... get used to something it hates. Like serving you brussels sprouts every night and hoping you'll learn to love them. 

 

Sometimes it half-works. Often it doesn't. And when it does "work," it frequently doesn't travel - the dog that's fine with the doorbell at home panics at Grandma's house.

 

 

 

 

 

You've seen the flashes of progress - and watched them disappear the second the context changed.

 

There's a different goal than control: change how the dog actually feels.

 

Perception Modification doesn't teach a dog to tolerate the trigger. It changes the dog's relationship to it -  until the thing that used to mean "threat" starts to mean "actually good."

 

We call the endpoint normalization. Not "the dog is managed." The dog is just... normal about it now. Like any dog who was never afraid of that thing in the first place.

 

That's why it works where desensitization stalls out: it doesn't depend on controlling the intensity or context of every exposure, and it generalizes - a dog who gets this at the training center gets it at the vet, at Grandma's, on the trail.

 

This is a working group, not a classroom.

 

Each day, we bring in dogs with a real, workable behavior challenge - chosen carefully, matched to what's fair to that dog in this environment (we're not asking any dog to face its single hardest trigger cold, in front of a room. That's not training, that's just stressful). Together, as a group, we'll:

  • Assess what's actually driving the behavior
  • Choose the Perception Modification (and Intermediate Bridge) approach that fits
  • Watch it applied live, in real time
  • Talk through why it worked, what you'd adjust, how you'd run it with your own client dogs

By day 4, you're not just someone who watched Perception Modification happen. You're someone who can walk into a hard case, assess it, and know what to do because you've done it, not just heard about it.

  • TBTE reserves the right to exclude any dog from the event for safety or training reasons
  • Dogs with a known history of harming people or other dogs should NOT be brought without prior discussion with TBTE.
  • Whether or not, or in what circumstances, any dog will be worked is at the discretion of TBTE and will be based on functionality and safety. Not dog or handler is guaranteed any particular work
